We walked to the Western bus with all our gear and as we were waiting for the bus, we hear “Hey Tony & Debi” from a car. Last Friday, Tony & I got to enjoy a wonderful cooking class on Indian foods that my friends (Tesha, Megan, & Kate) got me for my birthday. We had talked to our teacher about our up coming trip to Thailand. Well, low and be hold, Naveen shouted from his car to us and wished us a fantastic trip (oh, and to take lots of pictures). It was great!
We then got off the bus and took the Blue line to O’hare. We found terminal 5 at the international side and checked in with Cathay Pacific airlines.
We had some time to kill so we sat at a bar, enjoyed our first drink of our vacation and Tony had some chicken McNuggets. After a very very slow security check, we got on board our flight. It wasn't very full, so Tony & I had all 3 seats to just ourselves with extra space in front of us because we didn't have people sitting in front of us.
We got situated and had our first meal on the flight - pork & potatoes with bread, shrimp cocktail, vanilla ice cream, & cookies. It was actually pretty good, OH and I got myself a South Africa white wine & Tony a Danish beer.
They had snacks through out the flight too. We got a bowl of noodles with chop sticks, very good. And got another dinner, this time I got lasagna & Tony got beef with rice. I also enjoyed the tea with the tiny spoon.
But to sum it all up, here’s what we did for our 16 hour flight to Hong Kong:
- Debi played Pac Man
- Tony watched old soccer games
- Watch ModernFamily
- Watch Anthony Bourdain in Cambodia
- Played Yatzee against each other
- Worked on New York photo album
- Did laps around the airplane
- Exercises in our seats (they actually had videos to show you what to do)
- Slept on the floor (we took turns)
- Slept across all 3 seats
- Watch Money Ball - we both really liked it
- And just sat and chit chatted
- Washed our faces & brushed our teeth
We arrived at the Hong Kong airport around 7:45 pm and had to find our connecting flight to Bangkok. This airport is crazy big and sales every expensive designer you can think of. But we of course, weren't interested in that, we wanted to try the Chinese food court.
We got Chinese beer, with an old school pull top and we split BBQ pork steamed buns. They were awesome. Tony tried the hot sauce with he didn't need to put too much on.
We boarded our next 3 hour flight to Bangkok, where we slept some more and ate again. This meal was a vegetable curry with rice and bread. I ate it all up, even though it was spicy for me, so delicious. If airplane food is tasting this good, we can't wait for what's to come! I tried a different looking fruit which had to be in the kiwi family, so hopefully I can find that again. It was so refreshing, as my dad would say.
FINALLY, after over 24 hours of traveling, we made it through immigration, we got a public taxi, who drive on the other side of the road & steering wheel is on the opposite side of the car, we paid only $11.65 US for the 30 minute ride to our Hotel and are now relaxing in our room ready to get sleep.
Our room is great, we love it at Siam @ Siam and here are a few pictures to show you the room. But I'm signing off, it's almost 2am here and we have looks to explore tomorrow. Goodnight Everyone.
