I can't speak much about the boys day, but from what I was told, the golf course was incredible. They were starring out at Table Mountain the entire time while enjoying the beautiful day. It was a little wet outside from being early in the morning (an 8:30am tee time). Brendan, Pat, Tim & Tony all went together to golf. Even though they had to lie about their handicap to play at this course, it wasn't too crowd so they ended up being fine. They were told that the England National team was going to be golfing there on Saturday & they tried to get another tee time, but could not. However, they all really enjoyed playing together:
As for Ali & I, we did some good shopping at Greenmarket Square. This is were locals come to sell what they have made, it's also where you can bargain for good prices. We actually decided to walk there from our apartment, which took a little over an hour. However, we stopped for some gelato on the way. I got mint and milk & cookie, while Ali got mint & snickers. We both decided the mint was the best. It wasn't the best gelato we've had, but we thought the mint was very good.
When we arrived at Greenmarket Square, the very first stand that we went to had very pretty jewelry, so already we both bought a necklace. She was a very nice lady & hand made all her jewelry.
Then we continued through the crowded market, where they had many wooden & metal animals, wooden masks, beaded dolls, lots & lots of jewelery, different fabrics, animal skin purses & wallets, bags, shoes, paintings & soccer scarfs, vuvuzelas, jerseys & hats. It was a wonderful experience talking to the locals & looking at all the different things to buy. Every stand we went to, they would tell us, please touch, it's free to touch, & they would give us a special deal. There was this one woman from Zimbabwe who crocheted doilies - they were just so beautiful! She was so sweet and told us she'd give us a discount.
I think Ali & I spent about 2-3 hours at Greenmarket & it's not that big. We made sure to hit up every stand. Here is a snap shot of one side of the market:
We then decided to head to fan fests to pick up this one key chain that I had seen there, but also to get a quick glance at the Argentina vs. Korea match. Again, just an amazing view.
Then we decided to walk back to our apartment, but stop for lunch on the way. We found this Italian place called Bravado along Main Street where Ali got a Salad & I got 2 different halves of pizza - 1) Plain Cheese & 2) Chicken, Baby Spinach, & Goat Cheese, that one was amazing! We also decided to enjoy a bottle of a White wine. The wine is just so good here & so cheap. It cost us $13 for a bottle of wine at a restaurant, crazy! At the store here, you can get a bottle of GOOD wine for like $4 and you don't really need to pay more.
We walked back to our apartment, where we met up with the boys. We hung out there to finish watching a game, we had a few drinks, & ran out for some take away Thai food that we brought back to our place. We weren't that impressed with this Thai food, except for the boys, but it was close to our apartment so we were able to get back home to watch the Mexico vs. France game. It ended up being such a fun day!
Shopping with Ali in a small square took 2-3 hours?? I would have expected it to take longer than that! Almost as bad as the outlets! What an amazing trip and Debi, thank you for blogging!! I'm loving following along your trip with all of you!
